Why am I getting the message "Duo Desktop Needs Permission to Access Your Local Network"?

Google Chrome version 142 and Microsoft Edge 143 include a change which causes users to see a permission prompt whenever a website attempts to send an HTTP(S) request to a device on the local network or to the loopback connection on the local machine.

If you have recently updated your Chrome browser to version 142 or your Edge browser to version 143, you may begin seeing the following message when you sign in with Duo:

These new browser versions have implemented a change that causes Duo to issue this prompt whenever a user attempts to access a local resource, such as the university's single sign-on portal. You can safely click the "Skip for now" button to bypass this message.
