How do I find the hostname of my Mac computer?
Answer
Method 1: Using Terminal
The command will display your computer's hostname in the output.
- Open Terminal (you can find it in
Applications > Utilities, or by searching with Spotlight).
- Type
hostname and press the Enter key.
Method 2: Using System Settings
For macOS Ventura or newer:
- Click the
Apple menu > System Settings.
- Click
Generalin the sidebar.
- Click
About.
- Your computer's full name is listed next to "Name".
- To find the local hostname, click General in the sidebar, then
Sharing. The local hostname is listed at the bottom of the window.
For macOS Monterey or older:
- Click the
Apple menu > System Preferences.
- Click
Sharing
- Your computer's name will be displayed at the top of the window. The local hostname is also listed in this window.
