Is there free software SDSU offers to students?

Answer

Yes there is. Check out the list below for details on the software available to SDSU students.

SPSS

For courses that require the use of SPSS, you will be provided access through VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) by going to https://cloudapps.sdstate.edu and downloading the VMware Horizon Client. Log into the VMware Horizon Client software and connect to General Lab to use SPSS.

If you do not have access to General Lab, please contact your instructor who can reach out to the support desk to have your access enabled.

If you wish to use SPSS independent of a class, please contact the support desk with information detailing what you will be using it for to get approval and access.

STATA

Stata is a software that provides the ability for users to conduct data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting.

Stata can be accessed at the First Dakota National Bank eTrading Lab on the 1st floor of Harding Hall: https://www.sdstate.edu/ness-school-management-and-economics/harding-hall

Undergraduates need to purchase their own license if it is required for a class.

VitalSource E-textbooks

VitalSource and most of its participating publishers are offering free access to SDSU students and faculty for up to seven titles.

For existing VitalSource First Day Access classes, students and faculty go to the Resources menu in any D2L course to access the VitalSource Bookshelf and search for content. For first-time users, they will need to go to the VitalSource Helps webpage to get started to search for content. Below are resources for students and faculty on borrowing ebooks for free:

Free TurningPoint Web Online Polling

Any students can get free TP Web license online polling for free. Go to any D2L Course, Resources, TP Account Registration. Follow the screen to use your SDSU email to register TP account. Then you can join any TP online polling online with a number provided by your class instructor.  

Matlab

SDSU is subscribed to all of Matlab software modules including Online, Drive, Mobile, Grader, and Training. Access through the SDSU Portal at  https://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/south-dakota-state-university-729367.html

RStudio

For R Statistical Programming download at  https://rstudio.com/products/rstudio/#rstudio-desktop

Compatibility: Windows, Macintosh, Linux (Ubuntu, Redhat, Arch)

SAS Statistical Software

Download at:  https://www.sas.com/en_us/software/university-edition.html

Compatibility: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS.
