How do I reset my South Dakota State University account password?
Answer
Minimum password requirements for any below method:
- a min of 15 characters
- it must contain 3 of the 4 character classes:
- lower case characters
- upper case characters
- numbers
- special characters (eg. !@#$, etc)
- it cannot contain your first or last name
- it cannot contain sdsu
- it cannot be a repeat/old password

** Remember to update your password for all other devices to match the new password to access the SDSU network, these include your cell phone and/or tablet. **
For Students:
The best way to change/reset your South Dakota State University password is from a web browser using the following steps:
- Using a browser of your choice, go to: https://loginhelp.sdstate.edu.
- Click the “Reset Password" button.
- Choose “Student” and enter the required information, then hit proceed. (Please note the password requirements above.)
For Staff:
The best way to change/reset your South Dakota State University password is from your work computer.
To do that refer to your type of device below.
For Windows Computers:
Option 1:
Change your SDSU Account password using the keyboard shortcut CTRL-ALT-DELETE, you can do the following:
- Log in to your computer
- Press and hold CTRL-ALT-DELETE
- Select Change a password
- Enter your current password
- Create and confirm a new password. (Please note the password requirements above.)
- Press Enter
Option 2:
- Using a browser of your choice, go to: https://loginhelp.sdstate.edu.
- Click the “Reset Password" button.
- Choose “Faculty/Staff/Other” and enter the required information, then hit proceed.
- Complete the remaining steps to change your password. (Please note the password requirements above.)
For all other devices (i.e. MAC OS Computers, iPads, smartphones, etc):
- Using a browser of your choice, go to: https://loginhelp.sdstate.edu.
- Click the “Reset Password" button.
- Choose “Faculty/Staff/Other” and enter the required information, then hit proceed.
- Complete the remaining steps to change your password. (Please note the password requirements above.)
*If you are not at your computer (eg, your phone or tablet), you can still change your password using loginhelp. Please follow the steps listed above for all other devices.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If you are currently in your Microsoft Office application you may need to close it and then log back in with your new password
- Turn wifi off and then reconnect and login with your new password.
