Question

How do I connect my game console, smart TV, Roku, Apple TV, Firestick, Chromecast, or bluray player to Wifi in the residence halls?

Answer

Wireless printers and voice controlled speakers are not supported on the SDSUStudent or SDSUIoT networks.

To connect a device in your residence hall room to WiFi, look for the WiFi network called SDSU-IOT. The SDSU-IOT WiFi network is for streaming devices only. It will require a “passkey” to connect.

To obtain the passkey, please log into your MyState Student Portal (https://mystate.sdstate.edu), go to the Getting Started tab, and look for the Residence Halls Entertainment WiFi section.

The Entertainment WiFi Network for residence halls will allow the following devices and more to connect to the wireless network:

  • Smart TVs
  • Roku streaming players
  • Apple TV
  • Amazon Fire TV sticks
  • Chromecast devices
  • Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch

Note: If you are connecting a computer to WiFi, please see these articles: Connect Windows 10 Computer to Wifi or Connect Mac Computer to Wifi. If you are connecting a phone, please see these articles: Connect Android Device to Wifi or Connect iPhone or iOS Device to Wifi.
