Find Wired MAC Address on Mac

Question

How do I find my wired MAC address on Mac?

Answer

  1. Plug an ethernet cable into the wall port or access point and then into your system, dongle, or dock
  2. Select the Apple icon in the Menu Bar
  3. Select System Preferences
  4. Double-click Network (globe icon)
  5. Select the connection method. In the left-hand column you will see a list of connections.
    • Ethernet - Select Ethernet if the system offers this option. This will typically be a built-in ethernet port. New iMacs have the ethernet port built into the power adapter.
    • USB 10/100/1000 - Select this option if you are using an ethernet adapter dongle. Important: You will need to plug it in to the system first to see the MAC address. If a popup box asks you to "Enter the name and password for this 802.1X network," click Cancel. If you enter credentials, it will cause the MAC bypass to stop working and you will need to delete the credentials out of your keychain.
    • Thunderbolt Bridge - You may need to select this option if you are using a thunderbolt dock.
    • Note: If you are unsure which one to select, attempt to connect your system and the status of "Not Connected" may change, or the connection may change positions in the list.
  6. Click Advanced... in bottom right corner
  7. Click Hardware (top row, far right side)
  8. Your wired MAC address is displayed at the top
