When logging into email or D2L, your account says Welcome to Duo Security. This means your account is protected by Duo. Follow the enrollment process below.

Important: If you are able to log into your email using an incognito browser window and you are not prompted with Welcome to Duo Security and/or are not asked to Enter a Passcode or Send a Push, then your account hasn’t been added to Duo yet and you will need to wait until it is added. (See article Check If You Are Enrolled in Duo)

How to Enroll in Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

📱 Before You Begin:
Make sure you have access to both your computer and your mobile phone.


Step 1: Install Duo Mobile on Your Phone

Download the Duo Mobile app from your device’s app store:

  • Android: Duo Mobile on Google Play
  • iPhone: Duo Mobile on the App Store

Step 2: Begin Enrollment on Your Computer

  1. Go to https://jacksemail.sdstate.edu or Outlook.com and sign in with your SDSU email.
  2. When prompted, click Get Started to begin Duo setup.
  3. Select Duo Mobile as your authentication method.
  4. Enter your mobile phone number, then click Continue.
  5. Confirm your number is correct by selecting Yes, it's correct.
  6. If you haven’t already installed Duo Mobile, use the links above to download it, then click Next.

Step 3: Activate Duo Mobile on Your Phone

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app (green icon with white letters).
  2. If this is your first time using Duo Mobile, you may see a prompt asking you to choose between “Set up Account” or “Use Existing Account.” Select “Set up Account” and skip the next step.
  3. Tap the “+” (Add) button in the top right corner.
  4. Select Use QR code.
  5. Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.

Step 4: Complete Setup on Your Computer

  1. Once the QR code is successfully scanned, a green check mark will appear.
  2. You’ll see “Added Duo Mobile” — click Continue.
  3. You can now add another device or select  "I don't want to add more devices."
  4. When you see “Setup completed!”, click Log in with Duo.

✅ You’re all set! Duo MFA is now active on your account.
