When logging into email or D2L, your account says Welcome to Duo Security. This means your account is protected by Duo. Follow the enrollment process below.
Important: If you are able to log into your email using an incognito browser window and you are not prompted with Welcome to Duo Security and/or are not asked to Enter a Passcode or Send a Push, then your account hasn’t been added to Duo yet and you will need to wait until it is added. (See article Check If You Are Enrolled in Duo)

How to Enroll in Duo
Note: You will need to be at your computer with your phone available
1.) Start with downloading the Duo Mobile app on your phone
Download the Duo Mobile app on your phone by going to the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iPhone)
2.) On your computer
- Sign into your email by going to https://jacksemail.sdstate.edu or Outlook.com
- Select Get started
- Select Duo Mobile
- Enter your phone number and select Continue
- Verify the number you entered is correct and select Yes, it's correct
- Download the Duo Mobile app if you haven't already done so and select Next
3.) On your phone
- Select the Duo Mobile app on your phone (green icon with white letters)
- Tap the Add + button in the top right corner
- Select Use QR code
- Scan the QR code displayed on the computer screen using your phone by holding the phone's camera up to the computer screen with the QR code in view
4.) On your computer
- When the Duo Mobile app detects the QR code, it will show a green circle with a checkmark
- Added Duo Mobile will display, select Continue
- Setup completed! will display, select Log in with Duo
Your Duo Mobile setup is now complete!
Note: New Faculty/Staff accounts may not have Duo enabled during the first week of employment. Please wait for it to be added. You will receive communication as to when your account will be added to Duo.
