Prerequisites
- You have access to your new phone.
- You have access to a computer.
- You can know your South Dakota State University Microsoft account information.
- The Microsoft Authenticator app is installed on your new phone.
๐ฒ Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Search for Microsoft Authenticator.
- Tap Install and wait for the app to download.
๐๏ธ Step 2: Remove Old Account (If Present)
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone.
- If your South Dakota State University account is already listed (from a backup or previous setup):
- Tap the three dots (โฎ) or gear icon next to the account.
- Select Remove account or Delete.
- Confirm the removal.
This ensures a clean setup and avoids conflicts with the new QR code.
๐ Step 3: Sign In to Your South Dakota State University Account
- On your computer, go to: https://aka.ms/mfasetup
- Sign in with your South Dakota State University email address and password.
- Youโll be prompted to set up your sign-in method.
๐ท Step 4: Add Your Account to the Authenticator App
- On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Tap the "+" (Add Account) button.
- Choose "Work or school account".
- Select "Scan QR code".
๐งพ Step 5: Scan the QR Code
- On your computer screen, a QR code will appear.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code with the Authenticator app.
- The account will be added to your app.

Step 6: Confirm Setup
- After scanning, click Next on your computer.
- Microsoft will send a test notification to your phone.
- Approve the notification in the Authenticator app.
